WESA SCOREKEEPING TRAINING
Scorekeepers are an essential part of WESA.  And Scorekeeper training is an essential part of league operations.   This course is for those volunteers who are focused on learning more about the process as well as the Coach Squad members as learning to Scorekeep is en essential part of the process of Team Management.

The WESA Official Scorekeeping Manual is in Draft form and can be viewed HERE.  Your feedback on the draft manual  is appreciated.  Please send any comments/suggestions to Commissioner (at) WESA.net.

What does a Scorekeeper do?
Softball convention provides for the scorekeeping of games to be handled by the  Team Manager or Coach.  In WESA,  the Managing Coaches are also players.  So our league has a long-standing tradition of members who scorekeep for each other's games.  This allows for the Managing Coaches who already volunteer an enormous amount of time, to focus on the game they are playing.

However, Managing Coaches should always be prepared to keep track of their own score and that of the opposing team because there will always be games where there is no Official Scorekeeper.   Scorekeeping is an essential part of WESA Team Management training.

Why do we have Official Scorekeepers?
Having volunteers to take on the task of  scorekeeping helps by:

  • Freeing up of Managing Coaches to focus on enjoying their games without the added administration of taking score and statistical notes.
  • Our Official Scorekeepers provide essential information that would normally be performed by Team Managers.
  • Volunteering helps build community.
  • Scorekeeping deepens a member's knowledge and understanding of the game.
