Celebrating WESA Athletics: Commissioner’s Awards Honour Rick and Peter
At this year’s WESA Awards Banquet, Commissioner’s Awards were presented to Rick DeHart and Peter Haughton, recognizing their contributions to the growth and success of WESA Athletics.
WESA Athletics is built around a simple idea: give our members opportunities to learn, practice, play, and grow. Its success comes from experienced members who are willing to share what they know and create opportunities for others.
Rick DeHart has been part of WESA for decades as a player, coach, sponsor, and supporter. Throughout that time, he has shared his experience and knowledge with generations of WESA players, while supporting the League and its members both on and off the field. Rick efforts as part of the T1 Coach Squad and in the development of new pitchers have had a significant impact in our league.
Peter Haughton has helped take WESA’s Saturday Open Practices to another level. Under his leadership, Saturday mornings at Strathcona have grown into a thriving part of WESA Athletics—a place where new members can learn the game, experienced players can work on their skills, coaches can share their knowledge, and members from across our divisions can simply come together to play softball and get better at it.
Their recognition is also an opportunity to celebrate everyone who has helped build WESA Athletics.
From our coaches and Coach Squad members to the volunteers who run practices, clinics, and development opportunities throughout the season, WESA Athletics succeeds because WESA members continue to teach and support one another.
That is what Learn. Play. Belong. is all about.
Congratulations, Rick and Peter, and thank you for helping build a WESA where everyone has the opportunity to learn, play, and belong.
