New Player Registration
If you haven't played in WESA (sparing doesn't count) in the last 3 years - 2020, 2021, or 2022 - you will have to register as a New Player and you will want to read on to learn about some special requirements that affect you. This applies to lifetime and former WESA members as well as those who will be registering in WESA for the first time.
New Players must attend at least one of two Field Days scheduled on Saturday, February 25, and Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 10AM at Strathcona Parkto take part in a player assessment. Based on the recommendations from the assessment, the Commission will offer the player a place in either Tier 1 or Tier 2. If a player chooses to decline the offer, they can request a full refund anytime up to 48 hours prior to Draft Day.
During the registration process New Players can indicate their preferred tier and buddy name (if desired). The Commission aims to place everyone in the tier they prefer wherever possible and will try to ensure buddy requests can be honoured, subject to the player assessment recommendations made by our Coach-Scouts at Field Day.
In the interest of fairness for all members, the Commission cannot make exceptions to the Field Day assessment requirement.Inabilty/failure to make one of the Field Day assessments means that you will unfortunately lose your registered spot in the league and be moved to the bottom of the waitlist. This policyapplies to all new players, including those placed on the wait list during registration (see below).
Joining with a Buddy
Players may request a "buddy" to join with them. This will allow you and your buddy to be drafted to play on the same team. Unfortunately, wait-listed buddy requests cannot be accepted once the WESA Draft is held.
2023 Membership Fees
The Commission has retired the early vs regular tiered registration fee structure in favour of a flat registration fee of $160 that will be applied to all players assigned to a team prior to the end of the second week of regular season play.
Payment Process & Deadlines
Registered players will forfeit their reserved spots and be moved to the bottom of the wait list if payment is not received/postmarked by Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Refunds can be requested up to 48 hours prior to Draft Day.
There are three ways for members to pay their 2023 registration fees:

Online paymentcan be made via PayPal. Once you have registered online, we will send you an email with a PayPal link for you to pay.

Wait List
Once the registration system opens to the public, the potential is there to reach capacity at which point new registrations will be placed on a wait list. Wait-listed players are not required to make payment until they have been offered a place on a team.
However, all wait-listed players who meet the new player definition in the New Player Requirements section above must still attend one of the two Field Days to take part in a player assessment. New Players who are not able to make one of the Field Day assessmentswill be placed on the wait list behind any players who have been assessed.
Miscellaneous
As always, the Commission reserves the right to move any player between tiers in the interest of player safety (safety refers to the safety of both the player in question and other players on the field).
The Commission is aware that there are currently only 2 gender choices available in our registration system. We are working with our software providers to remedy this situation and anticipate that our registration and personal profile choices will be more reflective of our membership for the 2024 season.
