NOTICE: SIMPLIFLYING THE ELECTIONS PROCESS
July 3, 2022
Attention: All WESA Members who are eligible to vote in Annual Elections;
To simplify the nomination process for the upcoming elections for the WESA 2023 Commission, while increasing transparency of the process and continuing to maintain secrecy of voting, we are happy to announce the following:
1. WESA Members eligible to run for Commission positions, as defined in the Bylaws, will now be able to self-nominate. If you are interested in running for one of the open positions for next year’s Commission, all you will have to do is:
a. send an email to the Electoral Officer (to be announced) indicating which one (1) position you would like to run for;
b. include a short biography that we will publish for everyone to see explaining why you think you would be good at the position; and
c. provide a high-resolution head & shoulders photo of yourself—so even those people who do not know your name but think you are amazing–could potentially vote for you.
2. Secondly, we will use an online service called Election Buddy (www.electionbuddy.com) to manage the election. That service will cost WESA USD$20 and automates the entire election process. It has the advantages that:
a. each eligible member will receive a unique ballot by email so you can be vacationing in Greece and still vote;
b. the service automatically ensures only one vote per person;
c. while the Electoral Officer will know who has voted to ensure fairness, it will be impossible for anyone in WESA (including the Electoral Officer) to know how a member has voted as the results are stored confidentially on a server owned by Election Buddy; and
d. the results are tallied automatically so no manual hand-counting.
We are not yet ready for the elections, so please do NOT send us your nomination at this time. We will send another email to the Membership later in the Summer when we are ready to open the call for nominations.
In the meantime, to get you thinking about the opportunities, here are the open positions for election for next year’s Commission:
1. League Commissioner
|
2. Membership Commissioner
|
3. Special Events Commissioner
|
4. Communications Commissioner
|
5. Technology Commissioner: In addition to the above positions, this position is at the end of its term and is slated for renewal. Due to the technical nature and requirements of this position, it is not an elected position, but rather an appointed position by the Commission. If you have experience with managing web sites, and are familiar with email accounts administration, please email us at
to express your interest.
More information about voting rights, eligibility, the Commission & positions, etc. can be found in the WESA Bylaws here or at www.WESA.net > Rules & Reference > Bylaws.

Thank you,
