2023 GSWS Open Roster Process

2023 GSWS Open Roster Process

Hi WESA Members,

Have you ever thought about playing in the Gay Softball World Series (GSWS)? One of the perks of WESA membership is that we are part of the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA)—a non-profit international organization of gay and lesbian softball leagues from 52 cities in Canada and the United States, with over 3,000 teams of 25,000 members—and the organizers of the GSWS.

The GSWS is held annually and attended by over 5,000 LGBTQ+ players, coaches, and supporters from all over North America every Fall. There are divisions of play for all skill levels, and a Masters’ division for players 50+.  This year the GSWS is in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from Monday, August 28th to Saturday, September 2nd.

As a first step in our effort to provide our members with more lead time for planning and preparing to attend the GSWS, the Commission has updated our existing GSWS policy and procedures. Key changes include improved transparency regarding player and coach selection.

Please see the updated current policy at WESA.net > Resources > 2023 GSWS Open Roster Process

We always welcome any questions or comments anytime at  .  Or you may reach out to individual commissioners at WESA.net > Home | Tools > Contact

Cheers, WESA 2023 Commission

WESA 2023 Vision for Sustainability and Sportsmanship

WESA 2023 VISION FOR SUSTAINABILITY AND SPORTSMANSHIP

Hello WESA Members,

As we gear up for WESA's 45th Season, we are excited to share with you a report prepared to inform the membership on the complex issues the league has been tackling and the philosphy we are using to promote sustainability and sportsmanship.

Many thanks to the members who have been contributing to ideas and workable next steps in our evolution.

Please take a moment to read the brief Executive Summary (located at the Resources tab) to learn about this important initiative.

Should any of you want to delve further into details, the full paper entitled, A Vision for Sustainability and Sportsmanship, follows the executive summary and contains more in-depth analysis and philosophy on some improvements this season to the structure of the league.  Again this PDF document is located at the Resources tab.

As usual, please email   your questions or comments anytime. Season 45 is going to be a great year for WESA and we look forward to your involvement!

Thank you, WESA 2023 Commission

VOLUNTEER FOR WESA!

VOLUNTEER FOR WESA!

WESA wish Everyone a Happy New Year!

Did you know that 2023 marks WESA’s 45th Season?  Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing some key dates and information for the upcoming 45th Season.

In addition, WESA is fully run by volunteers, and WESA programs only succeed based on the volunteerism of WESA members.  As such, we are now looking for volunteers to assist with new & returning programs to be implemented in 2023.  These volunteer activities include:

  • facilitating/assisting with skill development clinics;
  • researching/developing a new WESA website using WordPress;
  • planning/implementing WESA's Special Events (e.g. Welcome Registration Party, Draft Party, Rookie Camp, Jersey Pick Up Party, Mixer games, Picnic in the Park, WESA Cup Playoffs, Pacific Cup Tournament);
  • scorekeeping; and
  • leagues statistics.

Do you have some time and/or skills to volunteer within WESA?  If yes, please let us know by contacting Peter Haughton, Vice Commissioner, at  .  Based on your interests and abilities, Peter will then connect you with the appropriate commissioner or committee in need of assistance.

See you all very soon!
